Cirque Ici in the Arts Festival

Just got back from Cirque Ici, one of the performances in the arts festival – really good.

Hard to pick out a single bit as the best, but the opening part where he whips furry structures between 3D and flat 2D certainly sets it up well; the part where the machine conveys an ever-increasing pile of books which he attempts to systemise and later construct into an ediface he then forms a part of generated interesting discussion afterwards; the on-stage tornado was very cool; and the 3D sculpture structure he created out of rope and timber while on top of it was very impressive.

Also excellent: the introduction at the start was bilingual – English plus – not in the performers' native French – but Maori. Cool!

Definitely recommended if you can go; at time of writing tickets are still available on the arts festival website.
