I love Tokyo. Amazing food everywhere, huge subway and train networks, a great photography gallery, an incredible interactive technology & science museum, bright lights, ultra-fresh sushi, tangled streets with cables and infrastructure everywhere, rain, umbrella locks, and the omnipresent Tommy Lee Jones-fronted drink vending machines.

I stayed in hotels in Ueno on both trips and thoroughly recommend it as a base for exploring Tokyo – it has reasonably-priced hotels, lots of eating options, a big park nearby with a variety of good museums, and has excellent transport links both on the subway & overground networks, and the fast trains to/from Tokyo Narita International Airport.
